Noah’s Pudding Celebration

November 18, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Members of the Peace Islands Institute recently visited the Woodlands Community Temple to share the tradition of Noah’s Pudding (Asure) with the Temple members. It was a lovely gathering of people from different cultures, backgrounds, and faiths. Members of the Temple were treated to some delicious Noah’s pudding which had been prepared by the ladies of PIINY and spent some time learning about the tradition. And Knicks center Enes Kanter showed up to say hi!

The Noah’s Pudding Tradition

“Noah’s Pudding” commemorates the common heritage of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. In the Muslim prophetic tradition, it marks two occasions: the day Moses and the Israelites were saved from Pharaoh’s army, and the day Noah’s ark was saved from the flood.

Today, in the Mediterranean region, Muslim and Christian celebrants prepare the flavorful dessert made from grains, nuts, and fruits and share bowls with their neighbors. The many, varied food ingredients and the sharing, symbolize how people from different backgrounds can peacefully and productively co-exist.
